Fluconazole is a medication used to treat (recurrent) vaginal yeast infections (candida). During menopause, oestrogen levels decrease and fluctuate, making the vaginal mucous membranes more vulnerable to fungal infections. Symptoms may include pain during urination, itching, redness, and swelling, sometimes accompanied by white, clumpy discharge. This medication contains fluconazole, an antifungal agent that inhibits fungal growth, alleviates symptoms, and, when taken as a maintenance dose, prevents recurrent infections. It is a hormone-free medication available only on prescription.
