What is Lenzetto?

Lenzetto is a type of hormone replacement therapy used to relieve menopausal symptoms. The spray contains estradiol, a bioidentical hormone that is identical to the oestrogen naturally produced by your body. During menopause, oestrogen levels drop significantly, which can result in a variety of symptoms. Lenzetto helps to replenish the oestrogen deficiency, potentially alleviating these symptoms. It is applied as a spray to the skin, where the hormone is absorbed.

Research indicates that women who begin hormone replacement therapy, such as Lenzetto, at the appropriate time and continue its use for several years during menopause may experience a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, osteoporosis, and overall mortality. For women with a uterus, the addition of progesterone/progestogen is necessary to prevent unwanted thickening of the uterine lining. This medication is available by prescription only.

What can you expect from Lenzetto?

Lenzetto is a skin spray that delivers estradiol. It helps restore oestrogen levels in your body, which may reduce menopausal symptoms. You may notice an improvement in symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats within a few days to weeks. The effect varies from person to person; some women experience results more quickly than others. The medication is intended for long-term use, as long as menopausal symptoms persist.

When should I use Lenzetto?

Use it daily, at a fixed time of day. In some cases, your doctor may recommend using it for 21 days followed by a one-week break.
Spray it on clean, dry skin (e.g., on the forearm).
Avoid applying it to the breasts or around the vaginal area.

For which symptoms is Lenzetto used?

Hot flushes/night sweats.
Heart palpitations.
Painful muscles and joints.
Poor sleep and fatigue.
Concentration problems.
Vaginal symptoms such as dryness or recurrent yeast infections.

Lenzetto may also help with:

Mental symptoms such as mood swings and irritability.
Skin issues such as dryness and ageing.
Changes in body odour.
Loss of muscle mass and strength.
Gastrointestinal symptoms.
Dry and itchy eyes.
Frequent urination.

Do not use Lenzetto if you:

Are allergic to estradiol or any other ingredients.
Have or have had breast cancer or another hormone-sensitive cancer.
Have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
Have a severe liver condition.
Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Have or have had blood clots in your blood vessels.
Have severe heart or vascular disease.

If you are taking other medications, inform the doctor prescribing Lenzetto. In some cases, Lenzetto may be less effective or cause more side effects when combined with other medications.

Possible side effects of Lenzetto

The most common side effects (in more than 1 in 10 users):

Headache.
Abdominal pain.
Nausea.
Painful or tender breasts.

Occasionally (in 1 to 10 out of 100 users), you may experience:

Skin reactions at the application site.
Mood changes.
Weight gain.

Rarely (in fewer than 1 in 1,000 users):

Blood clots.
Liver problems.

In rare cases, these side effects can lead to serious symptoms, such as chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, severe headache, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). Risks of hormone replacement therapy

The use of medication carries certain risks, and this is also true for menopausal hormone replacement therapy. When using oestrogen through the skin:

There is a slightly increased risk of gallbladder problems. However, this risk is lower compared to taking tablets.

If you still have a uterus, oestrogen must be combined with progesterone/progestogen. Otherwise, there is an increased risk of uterine cancer. For hormone replacement therapy involving oestrogen and progesterone/progestogen:

There is a rare but increased risk of breast cancer. This risk rises the longer the medication is used.

If you no longer have a uterus and use oestrogen alone, the increased risk of breast cancer is minimal or non-existent.

Recent studies indicate that menopausal hormone replacement therapy (when started before the age of 60) may offer protective benefits in addition to its risks. This includes certain types of cancer, osteoporosis, and diabetes.

What does Lenzetto do?

During menopause, your oestrogen levels decline, which can result in symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, disrupted sleep, and vaginal dryness. Lenzetto helps to supplement the reduced oestrogen levels, potentially easing these symptoms. Do you still have a uterus? If so, you will also need to take progesterone or progestogen to protect the lining of your womb.

How long does Lenzetto last?

The duration of a bottle of Lenzetto depends on the number of sprays your doctor has prescribed. Each bottle contains 56 sprays once prepared for use. If you use one spray per day, the bottle will last approximately 56 days. If you use two sprays per day, it will last around 28 days.

Always use Lenzetto as directed by your doctor. Do not exceed the number of sprays indicated on the label, even if the bottle appears to contain some liquid after this amount has been used.

Should you shower or wash before or after using Lenzetto?

It is preferable to shower or wash your skin before applying Lenzetto. Apply the spray to clean, dry skin and avoid massaging or rubbing it in. Ensure the area is completely dry before getting dressed.

If you wish to shower or wash your skin after applying it, wait at least 60 minutes. Should the spray accidentally come into contact with another area, such as your hands, wash that area immediately with soap and water.
