Femoston is a hormone therapy used to alleviate menopausal symptoms in women with a uterus who are still (occasionally) menstruating (perimenopause) and no longer require contraception. During menopause, hormone levels fluctuate and decline, which can lead to symptoms such as hot flushes, poor sleep, joint pain, and difficulty concentrating. Hormone therapy supplements these hormones and helps relieve these symptoms. Femoston mimics the natural cycle. The first 14 tablets contain only estradiol, while the last 14 contain estradiol and dydrogesterone. Some women may experience light monthly bleeding.
Estradiol is a bio-identical oestrogen, meaning it is identical to the natural oestrogen in your body. Dydrogesterone is a synthetic progestogen, a hormone that balances the effects of oestrogen on the uterine lining. Research suggests that starting hormone therapy, such as Femoston, at the right time and using it for several years during menopause may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, osteoporosis, and overall mortality. It is available by prescription only.
