FemSeven patches

  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
  • Used to treat symptoms of menopause
  • Also used to prevent osteoporosis after menopause
  • Patch for use on the skin

This medicine is only available on prescription.

How does it work and what is it for?

FemSeven is a hormone patch. It is prescribed as hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The patches contain the active ingredient estradiol, an oestrogen hormone. The hormone is gradually absorbed into the bloodstream from the patch to restore hormonal balance in postmenopausal women.

The medicine is used for:

Relief of symptoms occurring after menopause

In the years leading up to menopause, the amount of the oestrogen produced by a woman’s body drops. This can cause symptoms such as hot face, neck and chest (‘hot flashes’). FemSeven alleviates these symptoms after menopause. You will only be prescribed FemSeven if your symptoms seriously hinder your daily life.

Prevention of osteoporosis

After menopause some women may develop fragile bones (osteoporosis). You should discuss all available options with your doctor. If you are at an increased risk of fractures due to osteoporosis and other medicines are not suitable for you, you can use FemSeven to prevent osteoporosis after menopause.

FemSeven is used in postmenopausal women more than one year after menopause.
How and how often should I use this product?

FemSeven is an oestrogen-only patch that should be applied to the skin once weekly on a continuous basis, i.e., each patch is replaced with a new one after seven days.

Always use FemSeven exactly as your doctor has told you.

Apply the patch according to the instructions in the package leaflet. The patches should NOT be applied on or near the breasts!

For more information on how to apply, wear and remove the patches, please see the package leaflet. If you have any questions, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
