Nystatin belongs to a group of medicines called antifungal antibiotics. Nystatin Oral Suspension is used to prevent and treat fungal infections of the mouth (oral thrush), throat or gullet. Oral thrush appears as painful, white patches inside the mouth. It can cause difficulty eating or swallowing.
The active ingredient nystatin kills certain fungi and yeasts, including a yeast called Candida, to reduce the symptoms.
Always take Nystatin Oral Suspension exactly as your doctor has told you. Do not use the suspension if the seal is broken. Do not dilute the medicine. Shake the medicine well before use. Hold the medicine in the mouth and keep in contact with the affected area(s) for as long as possible before swallowing.

You should continue to take Nystatin Oral Suspension for 48 hours after your infection has cleared. This is important to prevent the infection returning.

One extra dose is unlikely to be a cause for concern but if you, or someone else, have accidentally taken too much suspension, contact your doctor or local hospital accident and emergency department immediately.
If you forget to take Nystatin Oral Suspension

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Nystatin should only be prescribed during pregnancy if your doctor thinks it’s necessary. It is not known whether nystatin gets into breast milk. Therefore, ask your doctor for advice before taking any medicine.

What Nystatin Oral Suspension contains:
The active ingredient is nystatin. Each 1ml of suspension contains 100,000 international units (IU) of nystatin.
The other ingredients are: sodium carboxymethylcellulose, methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, propyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, sodium metabisulphite, sucrose, saccharin sodium, sodium citrate, aniseed flavour and purified water.
