About the Silex Menopause Self-Test

Many women wonder if the symptoms they are experiencing are a sign of menopause. This is not always clear as changes may be subtle. Most women develop menopausal symptoms years before they reach menopause. Others have few or no obvious signs and symptoms until their periods stop. And some women experience symptoms such hot flashes, night sweats and sleeping problems early, between the age of 40 and 45. This is referred to as early menopause.

The levels of hormones, including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), change as your body transitions to menopause and beyond. During perimenopause, the first stage of menopause, FSH levels rise. The Silex Menopause Self-Test checks your urine for the presence of FSH. This way, you know if perimenopause has begun, even if you don’t have any symptoms.

The self-test can be done discreetly at home. It is very easy to carry out and provides results in a mere five minutes.

How to use the Silex Menopause Self-Test

Read the package leaflet carefully before use and follow the instructions on it. The steps for use are as follows:

  • Wash your hands with soap.
  • Open the box, remove the pouch and take out test stick (midstream).
  • Remove the cap of the midstream to show the absorbent tip.
  • Hold the midstream by the thumb grip with the exposed absorbent tip pointing downward. Urinate on the absorbent tip directly until it is thoroughly wet. This should be for at least three seconds. Do not urinate on the display panel.
  • Put the cap back on and lay the midstream on a flat surface with the display panel facing upwards.
  • Read the result in the display panel after five minutes. Note: do not read the result after 10 minutes.

READING THE RESULT

The test has two letters on the display panel, indicating the Test (T) line and Control (C) line.

  • The test is only valid if a pink-coloured line shows up in the Control (C) area. The Control (C) line may vary in shade and intensity (light or dark, weak or strong). If no line appears in the Control (C) area, the test result is invalid regardless of the presence or absence of a line in the Test (T) area.
  • If the Control (C) line and Test (T) line both appear as pink-coloured lines in the display panel, then the test is positive: the test has detected an elevated level of FSH. This indicates that the first stage of menopause has started.
  • If the Control (C) line is visible, but the Test (T) line is not visible or very faint, the test is negative: the test has not detected an elevated level of FSH.

We recommend that you talk to a doctor about your test result, also if the result is negative and you are experiencing menopausal symptoms.
